Blessing and Benediction from Rev. Adriene Thorne

by Rev. Adriene Thorne

An Autumn Blessing

For those of us who live in the northeastern part of the USA, the seasons are changing. Trees are putting on their autumn outerwear and forests are a riot of red, gold, orange, and brown. In the rhythm of time, God reminds us of the beauty in things that change, the beauty in what is fleeting. Like the death of loved one, this time of year reminds us that not everything was created to last. Loss can be icy and sharp, but also oddly tender in the warm spaces our beloveds leave behind. Maya Angelou said about loss, “We can be. Be and be better. For they existed.” May it be so.

God of change we grieve all that we have lost, and we thank you for all that existed. What a gift to be part of your rhythm of life. Help us to hold fast to what is good and when it is time to let it go, help us to let it go. Bless us with new eyes to soak in the joy of your creation. What a life. What a love. What a God. Amen.
