Robyn Davis Sekula, Vice President of Communications and Marketing for the Presbyterian Foundation, recently completed the Women in Leadership Certificate program offered by Cornell University\u2019s subsidiary, eCornell.<\/p>\n

This five-course certificate program examines the issues facing women in leadership positions and offers strategies for handling them. Professor Deborah Streeter balances academic research regarding social norms and expectations with practical strategies for operating effectively within the workplace. She discusses how to outmaneuver the \u201cdouble bind\u201d dilemma, showing strong leadership qualities without being penalized for it.<\/p>\n

Topics discussed by Professor Streeter within the Women in Leadership program include how women can best negotiate in the workplace, ways to effectively provide both positive and negative feedback and how they can strengthen their emotional intelligence to stand out as a leader among both men and women.<\/p>\n

This Women in Leadership program positions women who are in leadership positions to out-strategize gender bias and their own habits to achieve better results.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor me, this was a welcome opportunity to examine my own work patterns and boost my leadership skills,\u201d Sekula says. \u201cThis was a chance for me to step away from work and take a deeper dive into my professional life and the work I feel called here to do. I am grateful that the Foundation allowed me to take this time to complete this program.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sekula joined the Presbyterian Foundation as Vice President of Communications and Marketing in early 2019. She has more than 25 years of experience in the communications industry, beginning her career as a business journalist. She launched her own consulting company in 2003, providing communications, public relations and marketing consulting services to businesses, non-profits and individuals, including many Presbyterian-related entities.<\/p>\n
