Anita Clemons was elected to the Members Council of \uc624\uc774\ucf54\ud06c\ub808\ub527<\/a> at the Annual General Meeting. Clemons serves as Vice President & Managing Director of Investments for the Presbyterian Foundation.<\/p>\n

Clemons will represent North America for the international cooperative. The Members\u2019 Council is a consultation and advisory body which is broadly representative of Oikocredit\u2019s member organizations. It meets between the annual general meetings of members and is elected by the members to reflect and defend their interests.<\/p>\n

Oikocredit is a worldwide cooperative society which promotes global justice and encourages people, churches, and others to share their resources through socially responsible investments and by empowering disadvantaged people with credit. Oikocredit is one of the world\u2019s largest sources of private funding to the microfinance sector. They also provide credit to trade cooperatives, fair trade organizations and small-to-medium enterprises in the developing world.<\/p>\n

Clemons highlights Oikocredit\u2019s work in Africa, South America and Asia where Oikocredit has about 685 partners, though the reach of those partners extends to nearly 37 million people. About 86 percent of those partners are female, and partners reach 528,000 farmers through their programs. \u201cIt has been exciting to work with Oikocredit throughout my career at the Presbyterian Foundation,\u201d Clemons said. \u201cIn my 40 years of investment management, Oikocredit stands out as profound in its ability to make a difference in the life of other people. I am honored to serve on the Member\u2019s Council and look forward to continued involvement in the mission of Oikocredit.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Presbyterian Foundation was a founding member and investor in Oikocredit, founded in 1975 as the Ecumenical Development Cooperative Society. Oikocredit is one of several investments held in the Foundation\u2019s Creative Investment Program. The Creative Investment Program was implemented in 1975 by the 187th General Assembly with the directive to invest funds on six continents that promise high returns in terms of benefits to human needs.<\/p>\n
